Obituary of Pearl A. Munoz

Pearl A. Munoz of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Monday, October 5, 2015 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was 89. Daughter of the late Ashton and Sophie Cooper, she was born on July 24, 1926 in Brooklyn. On June 9, 1946 she married her sweetheart, James Munoz who predeceased her in October 2013. Together they lived and raised their two children in Brooklyn, until 1990 when Pearl and Jim moved to Wappingers Falls. Pearl spent her final two years residing at Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Home in Fishkill where she made many new friends and the staff took excellent care of her. Family meant everything to Pearl. She was known throughout her life for her ready smile and her friendly words and encouragement. Without any formal training, she spent her entire life taking care of sick family and friends. She was also a voracious reader. While in Brooklyn, Pearl was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church and its various organizations. Upon moving to Wappingers Falls, she joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie. Pearl is survived by her son, Steve Munoz and his wife, Irene; her daughter, Janis Zagami and her husband, Joe; grandchildren, Gary and his wife, Donna, Roger, Julie and her husband, Jim, and Jennifer and her husband, Jamie; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Derek, Brooklyn Summer and Evelyn. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held a 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd. in Poughkeepsie. Interment will take place following services at 1:30 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale.
