Obituary of Beverly B. Bowen

Beverly Banks Bowen, 98, of LaGrange, NY, passed away on August 31, 2021 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Family and friends will gather at the New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 Route 376 in Wappingers Falls, NY on September 19, 2021 at 12:30 pm. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm at the church with Reverend Keith Tamlyn officiating. Burial has taken place at the Wappingers Falls Rural Cemetery.

Beverly was born in Stamford, CT to Walter Frederic Banks and Dorothy Talmadge Miller Banks on March 15, 1923. She went to Stamford High School and graduated in 1941. She attended Drake Business School, and in 1943 moved to Nutley, NJ.

While working in the office of Electrolux, she met the love of life, H. David Bowen. They were married in the First Methodist Church in Stamford, CT on November 20, 1943. She worked as a legal secretary for many years in NJ and later NY after she moved to Poughkeepsie in 1954, and LaGrange in 1961.

She joined the New Hackensack Reformed Church in 1977 and was an active member of the choir for forty years. She was a proud Girl Scout troop leader and enjoyed music, reading, travel, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing the organ, and the many porch parties with friends. She and her David enjoyed many winters on Sanibel Island, FL during their 67 wonderful years together.

She is survived by her nephew Harry Bowen of Merrimacport, MA, niece Frances Bowen-Sanford of Burlington, MA, niece E. Pricilla Wacha of Portsmouth, NH, niece Cristina Sofia of Seattle, WA, nephew Frederick Bowen of Cape Coral, FL, niece Beverly Bowen-Modee of Coram, MT, and nephew Lester Bowen Jr. of Cape Coral, FL. She is also survived by 14 great-nieces/nephews and 17 great-great-nieces/nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, H. David, her father Walter, and her mother, Dorothy.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA or New Hackensack Reformed Church.
