Obituary of Helen Eastwood
Helen "Miki" Eastwood, 76, of Wappingers Falls, NY, died peacefully November 23, 2021, with her loving family at her side after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by both of her parents, Calvin Eastwood and Joyce Crocker. Miki spent the majority of her life living in Poughkeepsie, NY, her childhood in Poughquag, NY, and several years in Myrtle Beach, SC, before returning to Wappingers Falls to be near her family.
Miki worked at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for 45 years, retiring in 2007. She began her career in the Labor & Delivery Unit assisting in bringing countless new lives into the world. She eventually became the Maternity Ward’s leading Unit Secretary. Finishing off her career was in the Outpatient Clinic working in a variety of positions to ensure smooth operations for the patients and staff alike. She would volunteer for the Holiday Gift Drive at the Clinic wearing festive attire, singing and dancing through the halls. Throughout her tenor, she earned the respect and friendship of many physicians, nurses, patients and all levels of staff. They all knew she would plow through to get the task done; the ‘go-to’.
When Miki wasn’t playing slots at the casinos, taking road trips or out dancing, she enjoyed reading, various word puzzles and knitting for her loved ones and to donate to those in need. Most of all, Miki thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her family. Every moment was always dearly cherished, appreciated and lit up her happy light in her soul. Her quick and witty comebacks were both brow raising and jaw dropping but always in good humor and with love. Never would she speak or act in a malicious manner toward any living being. Living her life of good integrity, religious faith, intention and character was her daily goal.
Miki is survived by; her son and his wife, Michael and Debbie Wilson, daughter-in-law, Kristy Curcio, ex daughter-in-law, Janice Wilson, her beloved grandsons, Garrett Wilson and Ian Wilson, and her great grandson, Travis Wilson. She is also survived by her ex husband, Michael Wilson, as well as, a few uncles, aunts and cousins.
Miki was preceded in death by her youngest son, Sean Wilson, in December 2020. She was also predeceased by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, her beloved Nan and her best friend, Pauline Freer. As Miki’s health quickly failed her, she still found joy in knowing she would be reunited with people whom she loved dearly.
Family will received friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. during the visitation.
