Obituary of Ellen M. Griffin
Ellen M. Griffin, a thirty-two year resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Richmond Hill, Queens, peacefully entered into rest surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her home. She was 61.
Daughter of Arthur Tietz and the late Ann Corrigan Tietz, she was born July 17, 1960 in Huntington, New York. On February 14, 1986 in Rego Park, Queens she married Joseph F. Griffin. Mr. Griffin survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Ellen was a wonderful homemaker who also worked as a Lunch Monitor at Kinry Road Elementary School in the Wappingers Central School District system for over twenty-five years. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. She was known as an excellent baker and cook, a mother figure to many, and a huge Springsteen fan. Ellen will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by her daughters, Taylor Griffin and Catherine “Cat” Griffin and future son-in-law, Edward Lent all of Wappingers Falls; her sisters, Karen Rice and Ann Ponce; her brothers, Jimmy, Donald, Larry and Arthur Tietz; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and chosen family.
She was predeceased by her mother, Ann and sister, Martha Tietz.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Masks will be required for all indoor services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 3 at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
