Obituary of Lorene A. Prezkuta
It is with great sadness that the family of Lorene A. Prezkuta of Poughkeepsie, announces that she has entered into rest on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center at the age of 65 years.
Daughter of the late Alexander and Magdalene Rinak Pokrey, she was born on February 16, 1956 in Easton, PA. She married Alan C. Prezkuta on June 16,1979 in Wappingers Falls; Mr. Prezkuta survives at home.
After birth, Lorene's family relocated to various cities throughout Ohio, where she was raised. Upon settling in Dutchess County in the early 1970's, she attended and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. She later graduated from Dutchess Community College, earning a degree in nursing. Lorene worked for a year as a nurse for Castle Point VAMC, before enjoying a 23-year long career with Vassar Brothers Medical Center, retiring in 2005.
Lorene was a longtime communicant with her husband of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. In her spare time, she had a passion for studying genealogy. Most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her step-daughters, Lorraine Prezkuta-Diaz and her husband, Marco of Poughkeepsie and Kristine Prezkuta of Deltona, FL; grandchildren, Alan, Ryan and Marissa Gilleo, Miguel and Lorrenzo Diaz, and Alexis Gariolo; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Layla Gilleo; as well as many relatives and friends.
She was joined in heaven by her daughter, Katherine A. Gariolo, on October 12, 2022.
Visitation will be held for both Lorene and Katherine on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 4 to 8 PM at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for them on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the nurses in the Covid ICU at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for their care and compassion.
