Obituary of John E. Shortle

John E. Shortle, a resident of VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, Montrose Campus, and former longtime area resident, entered into rest Wednesday, December 8, 2021. He was 70.

Son of the late Jack and Eleanor Wright Shortle, he was born May 7, 1951, in Johnson City, New York. John was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1973. He went on to work as a machinist for many years in Poughkeepsie. John enjoyed many years with his wife, Rebecca “Becky”.

He will be remembered for always helping where and when he could and sharing what he had. He was artistic and enjoyed painting, photography and working with ceramics. John was also a tinkerer and enjoyed fixing things for others.

Survivors include his siblings, Molly Sharp of Alabama, Margaret Atkins of Wappingers Falls, Mark Shortle of Gardiner, Susan Shortle of Stamford, New York, and Janet Algiere of Red Hook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service at 1p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Masks must be worn for indoor services.
