Obituary of Albert J. Leon
The family of Albert J. Leon, a resident of Wappingers Falls, is heartbroken to announce his passing on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 77.
Born August 16, 1944, in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, Albert was the son of the late Thomas and Antonia Leon. He left Puerto Rico at age 5 and spent the rest of his life in the Hudson Valley. Albert served in the United States Navy, proudly serving as a Seabee, and he was honorably discharged in July 1965. After the Navy, Albert returned to the Hudson Valley, which he loved, and began a lifelong career as an electrician with Central Hudson.
Albert married Jadwiga Leon on April 29th, 1972. Together they built a full and wonderful life and a family in Wappingers Falls and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
He had many interests and talents. In his younger years he loved spending time outside, hiking, camping, taking road trips and playing his guitar. In his later life, he loved taking his dog Maya for walks around the neighborhood, stopping to chat with all the neighbors. He enjoyed working with his hands and seemed to know how to do everything; he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. First and foremost, however, Albert was a father in the truest sense of the word. He shared the things he loved to do with his children and their families and his many nieces and nephews. Albert was always happiest when he was with his family and some of our best memories of him will be the many family parties and family camping trips we had.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, he is survived by his children, Ahlena Leon Bell and her husband, Nick, Thomas Leon and his wife, Heather, Steve Leon and his wife, Jill and Joseph Leon and his wife, Danielle; his grandchildren, Amelia and Hazel and Mackenzie and Jack; his sisters, Mary Fowler, Sonia Rahm, and Yolanda Leon; his many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Maya. He was predeceased by his brother, Louis Leon.
Our family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
