Obituary of Joyce M. Marvin

Joyce M. Marvin passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 78. Daughter of the late Peter and Vivian Decker Longi, she was born March 27, 1937 with her twin, Judith, in Poughkeepsie. On April 4, 1959, she married the love of her life, William E. Marvin at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1999. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing and went on to work at Vassar Brothers Hospital. Joyce loved being a nurse. Officially retiring in 2012 from Vassar Brothers Medical Center, she had over forty years of service. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was especially proud of her grandchildren including Anthony who she helped raise and Peter and Ryan who are serving our country. Survivors include her children, Peter Marvin and his wife, Lorriann of Red Hook, Judi Palmer and her husband, Larry of Poughkeepsie and Justi Marvin of Poughkeepsie and her fiancé, Ron Hollister; her twin sister, Judith Pannozzo of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Peter Marvin and his wife, Amber, Lisamarie Marvin, William Marvin, Thomas Marvin, Anthony Marvin, Ryan Palmer and Erica Palmer; her great-granddaughter, Miranda; as well as her beloved cat, Smokey. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, especially Circle 5 and ICU for their kindness and compassion. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday January 13, 2016 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 14 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joyce's name may be made to your local SPCA or a charity of your choice.
