Obituary of David Herring

David Herring, affectionately known as “Pops”, a two year resident of Oxford, CT and previously of Poughkeepsie, NY, died November 17, 2022 at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Florida, with his wife by his side. He was 66.   

 

Son of the late Thomas and Rosemary Kane Herring, he was born on November 9, 1956 in Poughkeepsie. David was a graduate of Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1974 and Dutchess Community College in 1976, where he met his future wife. He went on to enjoy a 32 year long career with IBM in Poughkeepsie in the areas of data center operations, system performance and finance, before retiring in May of 2012.

 

On May 6, 1978 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Valley, he married the former Christine Toney; Mrs. Herring survives at home.

 

David was a loving and caring husband for 44 years, a devoted father and a terrific grandfather. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, golfing and spending time at the beach when at their Sarasota, Florida home. David loved watching and playing sports, coaching youth teams and cheering for both of his children from the sidelines while they were playing on town and school teams. He loved spending several days a week with his two grandsons, Austin and Tanner, going to parks/playgrounds, hikes/walks, having picnics, winter snowball fights and sledding.

 

In addition to his wife, Christine, David is survived by his son, Patrick Herring and girlfriend, Stephanie Faringer of Brooklyn, NY; daughter, Nicole Forstrom, her husband, Brett and their sons, Austin and Tanner, of Sandy Hook, CT; sisters, Kathleen Rutledge and husband, Robert of Millsboro, DE, and Diane Bessman and husband, Adam of Poughkeepsie, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by his brother, William Herring.

 

Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
