Obituary of Eleanor K. Veltre

Eleanor K. Veltre, a resident of The Inn at The Fountains at Millbrook and formerly of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Friday, January 13, 2023 at home. She was 90.

Daughter of the late William and Eleanor (Edna) Neafsey Mahoney, she was born June 24, 1932 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  She married Rudolph J. “Rudy” Veltre on June 20, 1953 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Mr. Veltre preceded her in death on July 24, 2017.  Dutchess county residents since 1961, Eleanor and Rudy also spent time living in Europe and several cities around the US in the 1970’s and ‘80s.

Prior to her retirement, she worked in the Audio Visual Department at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls.    She was active with the Cursillo movement in the Roman Catholic Church and was an active music minister at the former St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.  She also volunteered at the former Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie. One of her favorite volunteer activities was teaching children with special needs to swim.   Eleanor also enjoyed traveling. She was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie and received spiritual support from St. Joseph’s Church in Millbrook while at The Inn at The Fountains.  The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at The Inn for the love, care, and support given to Eleanor during her four years there.  Eleanor thought of the staff as part of her family and The Inn as her home.  She will be remembered for her life filled with music and song which she shared with all she knew and loved.
