Obituary of Grace Joanne Stach

Grace Joanne Quigley Stach (Joanie) went home on January 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She reunited with her husband, Michael F. Stach, son, Michael J. Stach and her sister, Margerite (Margie) Quigley Shallash. Grace was born in the Bronx on December 25, 1935, to John Quigley and Grace Gaffney Quigley, of Irish descent.

Her legacy leaves a beacon of light for her children, Michele Durling and her husband, Daniel, daughter-in-law, Lucille Stach, Robert Stach and his wife, Stephanie, Lisa Stach-Fraitag and her, husband Lee; grandchildren, Jet, MaryGrace, Toni, Nicolas, Francesca and Zachery; great-grandchildren, Bronx and Zofia; sister, Marion Quigley Gatzke and her husband, Otto; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed traveling with her family around the world. Along with her husband Michael and her children, she experienced living in Germany for a year. Her passions included singing (she was a member of the IBM Chorus), baking, early American houses, furniture restoration, local history, antiquing, gardening, camping, reading, quilting, musicals and anything Irish. She devoted much of her time volunteering at the Locust Grove Garden and Habitat for Humanity.  

Throughout her career, Grace worked in the secretarial field, retiring from Vassar College. 

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, January 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9 in Fishkill.
