Kathleen A. Smith, a 43 year resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Yonkers, entered into rest Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was 68.   

Daughter of the late Stuart and Florence Blaikie, she was born on March 15, 1954 in Yonkers. She married the love of her life, John Smith, on September 15, 1978 in Yonkers; Mr. Smith survives at home.

Kathleen worked for 10 years for Gramaton Finance Company. When her children were born, she stayed home to care for them. Once they were older, she went back to work as a teaching assistant in the Wappingers Central School District for 10 years. Kathleen loved working with her students and the staff at Van Wyck. She later spent her time cooking for her family’s deli in Millbrook, passing on many of her recipes and family favorites.

In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her daughters, Jaclyn Smith-Imm and her husband, Robert, Jr., and Jillian Montross and her husband, Robert; sisters, Linda Gurreri, Diane Mee and her husband, Bill, and Teresa Estremera and her husband, Steven; grandchildren, Julia Imm, and Jason, Matthew and John Montross; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she loved dearly. She will always be the wind beneath our wings.

Kathleen was predeceased by her angels, her son, Jason Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Joanne Blaikie; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Micheline and George Brudnak.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
