Madge Leto

Obituary of Madge Leto

Madge Leto, 102, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at The Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, New York. Madge was born on February 24,1920 in Wappingers Falls, New York to Percy D. Brown, Sr. and Hazel Brown. She was a graduate of Wappingers Central School.

On February 6, 1945 she married the love of her life, Andrew Leto, who passed away on July 27, 1975. Madge and Andy lived life to the fullest traveling our country and taking trips to Europe, but their first love was the house they built together with her father, Percy, located on Vassar Road near Red Oaks Mill, New York. Her love of our country was depicted throughout their home, decorated traditionally in Early Americana Decor.

“Aunt Madge” as we fondly called her, was a joy to know and a “hip” lady all her days. A genuine “clothes horse” who surely knew how to dress to the nines. She enjoyed cooking which was enhanced by her working for Stanley Cole at Party Time Caterers in Wappingers Falls. She was also a master crafter which was demonstrated by her skills in sewing, beautiful braided rugs, and cross stitch wall hangings. She was also skilled in floral design which was demonstrated at Osborne’s Floral Shop in Red Oaks Mill.

Madge is survived by her two nephews, who she loved dearly, Daniel Brown and his wife Bobbie of St. Charles, IL. and Timothy Brown and his wife Kakuko of Sylmar, Ca. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a great niece, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Madge was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother Percy D. Brown, Jr. and her sister-in-law Marian “Dolly” Brown.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of The Pines, especially Tenisha who was with Madge when she passed.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York. A Graveside Service, officiated by The Rev’d. Deacon Larry Haynes, Sr., will follow immediately at Wappingers Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Oaks Mill Fire Company, 213 Vassar Road, Poughkeepsie, New York, 12603.
