Obituary of Pauline Mary Stevenson

Pauline Mary Stevenson, age 78, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 while under the loving care of her family after an extended battle with cancer. She was a long time resident of Wappingers Falls. Pauline was born September 10, 1935 in Poughkeepsie to Onalova Bloomer. Her mother fondly called her "Chick" and it stuck for the rest of her life. Her mother married George Fielding who adopted her. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953 and worked as a secretary for several years at IBM in Poughkeepsie. In 1957, Pauline married her husband, Henry Stevenson, also from Poughkeepsie. Pauline was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind and creative soul who enjoyed decorating her home, cooking for and spending time with loved ones as well as preparing for the holidays. One of her greatest joys was taking care of others, whether it be a family member or a neighbor in need. This unconditional nurturing was also extended to animals and strays. When her children were younger, Pauline coached cheerleading for Pop Warner. In her later years, she delighted in caring for her infant grandchildren while her daughters were at work. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Boyd Stevenson of Wappingers Falls, Jill Stevenson of Hopewell Junction and Jennifer Longo of New Paltz. She has four grandchildren, Chelsea and Chloe Weintraub and Brett and Cadence Longo. She will be immensely missed. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private for family members following the service.
