Obituary of Suryakanta Lalitchandra Dani

We are very sad to announce the passing of Smt Suryaben Dani on April 26th at Vassar Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY in the presence of her family. She is survived by her husband, Mr Lalitchandra Dani, her sons Dr Ashlesh Dani and Dr Dhimant Dani, daughter-in-law Dr Bina Dani and Falguni Dani, grand kids Ruju, Yash, Aarav and Aashna.

Suryaben was born on Oct 5th, 1935 in Borsad, Gujarat, India in Digambar Jain family. She spent her early years of schooling in Dahod and PTC college in Godhra. She pursued her Bachelors and Masters in Arts and Bachelors in Education in Ahmedabad. She settled in Ahmedabad with her husband and two kids for many years. She enjoyed working as primary school teacher until retirement. She was also involved in the project of primary school curriculum improvement. After retirement she did volunteer service at many schools of deaf and mute kids and blind kids school. She was a Honararee Director in primary school after retirement.

She was the First Lady mountaineer in Gujarat to climb Pavagadh in Panchmahal, Gujarat. She had a courageous, bold and outstanding personality.

She came to USA along with her husband in year 2000 to be with her kids’ family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She was very pious Digambar Jain, spending 3-4 hours daily doing puja, singing  bhaktambar jain stavan, bhajans and pratikraman.

She always had an affectionate loving smile, selflessly helping everyone and forgiving nature. Everyday her mantra was, “Michhami Dukkadam - If I have hurt anyone in anyways by my thoughts, words or actions, please forgive me.”
