Obituary of Howard C. Dearborn

Howard C. Dearborn of the Town of Poughkeepsie passed away at home, surrounded by his sons, Robert and Steven, after a long illness on Sunday May 21, 2023. He was 93.

Born August 4, 1929 in Woodside, NY, he was the son of the late Howard and Pilar Dearborn, Sr. Howard was a graduate of Bryant High School in Astoria Queens, where he ran track and held the record for the quarter mile. Howard married his high school sweetheart, Harriet K. Dearborn, on May 24, 1952 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodside; Mrs. Dearborn passed away June 27, 2022.

Howard served his country in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie where he held many management positions for 42 years, until his retirement. Howard was a very active member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls for over 60 years, where he was a member of the vestry and worked at many church functions. He also loved skiing, golfing and vacations at Cape Cod.

Survivors include his sons, Robert and Steven of Poughkeepsie; grandson, Matthew H. Dearborn of Woodstock; daughter-in-law, Linda Dearborn of Cold Spring; brother, Bruce Dearborn of Astoria, NY; brother-in-law, Norman Matte of Greenwich, CT; niece, Jennifer (Brandon) Miller; niece, Carolyn Bordes; nephew, Bruce Brandt; nephew, Patrick Brandt; and niece, Teresa Brandt.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Harriet, he was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy C. Dearborn; sister, Ann Bullard; and sister-in-law, Lillian Matte.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church 12 Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls.
