Obituary of Edward J. Duffy
Edward Joseph Duffy, 75, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. Edward was born in New York City on July 20, 1947.
Edward is survived by his beloved bride of 53 years, Kathryn Anne Duffy, whom he selflessly cared for until very recently when he was no longer able to do so. He is also survived by his 3 sons, Michaeljon, Edward Jr., and Christopher (and wife Michelle), his grandchildren, Michael & Logan Duffy, and his sister, Maureen Karr.
Edward was a proud Red Fox, graduating from Marist College in 1969. He was hired by Conrail (later Metro North) in 1971, where he worked for 36+ years. Edward and his wife Kathi co-owned Kathi Duffy Realty/Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, as well as The Real Estate Learning Center, which provided educational services to aspiring realtors from 1997-2004.
He was previously a volunteer for Glenham Slater Chemical Fire Company, as well as a volunteer for Poughkeepsie’s Office for the Aging. Edward was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, 1646 Council, and served as a Past Grand Knight. Edward and Kathi were very involved with their churches throughout the years, with Edward serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. Most recently they found their home at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Poughkeepsie.
Edward was passionate about his Irish heritage, and St. Patrick’s Day was his favorite day of the year. There was nothing he enjoyed more than a cold beer shared with his sons or close friends, and they gathered every Wednesday evening up until a couple of weeks ago.
The family will receive their friends and loved ones on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Straub, Catalano, & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. In accordance with Edward’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road in Poughkeepsie.
