Obituary of Josephine Russell

Josephine Russell, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Monday, July 17, 2023 at her home. She was 99.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia Sosnowski LeWancawick, she was born February 20, 1924 in Yonkers. She married the love of her life, James Russell in 1972 at St. Mary’s Church in Yonkers.  Jim preceded her in death on April 29, 2013.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a telephone operator and supervisor for New York Telephone in Yonkers. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Mary, John and William Hufnagel, Robert, Joseph and David Lansing and Roberta and Stephen Bremmer.

Family and friends will gather from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Truman Avenue in Yonkers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 (write food pantry on memo line).
