Obituary of Marie M. Birnstill

Marie M. Birnstill, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Monday, August 7, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Kenneth and Georgette Bollero Davenport, she was born January 26, 1937 in Huntington, Long Island. On September 5, 1959 in Huntington Station, Long Island she married Albert C. Birnstill, Sr. Mr. Birnstill survives at home in Wappingers Falls.

Prior to her retirement, Marie worked as a secretary at the Poughkeepsie Journal as well as Southern Dutchess News. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. Marie also enjoyed bowling. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was a cat rescuer. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Cheryl Palazzolo and her husband Mark of Poughkeepsie, Albert Birnstill, Jr. and his partner, Edwina Cruz of Cold Spring and Douglas Birnstill and his wife, Lisa of Hopewell Junction; her brother, Kenneth Davenport, Jr.; her grandchildren, Janine Mitchell and her husband, Will, Stephanie Palazzolo, Mark Palazzolo and his fiancée Jillian and Abigail Birnstill; as well as her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Silas, Payton, Hayes and Jett.

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
