Erika Haldeman, a resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 96.

Daughter of the late Johann and Olga Hambrecht, she was born December 19, 1926 in Bremen, Germany. In 1947, she married Erwin G. Haldeman. Mr. Haldeman preceded her in death on November 8, 1992.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a retail clerk at Sears in Poughkeepsie. Erika loved to cultivate roses and won several first place ribbons at the Dutchess County Fair over the years.  She enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles. Because of her German heritage, she loved German music and German cooking.

Survivors include her daughter, Monica Classey and her husband, Michael; her son, Gregory Haldeman and his fiancée, Debra Cretella; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Haldeman; her grandchildren, Michael, James, Brenda, Eric, Jessica, Steven and Emily; as well as her great-grandchildren, Jayce, Dean, Cass, Kaylee, Alyssa, and Sierra.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Dale Haldeman on September 1, 2023 and her sisters, Frieda Stock and Martha Sickel.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 14 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
