I'm just reading this today, Feb 18th. I had no idea that Dean had passed. My husband and I worked with his father for many many years. I remember Dean as a teenager. We send our condolences and we are very saddened to learn this.

From: Galo Rossado (MTA – Retired coworker)
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. It was a pleasure
to have known Dean. Dean and I worked together for many years solving
application issues and while solving these issues we laughed, got frustrated and shared stories
in regards to our families. I will miss him and will cherish those memories.
Rest in Peace Amazing, AMIGO!

Dean was an extraordinary person. He enjoyed life, nature, family and friends. He cherished the moments being surrounded by loved ones. His laugh and smile were contagious.
I have known you for all of my late teens to Adult life.
You will be missed and remembered always.
Your spirit will be with us all always.
Sleep well until we all meet again.
God bless and keeps us in perfect peace.

MTA Friends;
Dean was a valued member of the MTA team. He was a high energy passionate worker who cared greatly for the projects and people he worked with. He always brought a smile to our faces and had a positive attitude at work. He was always sharing interesting facts and stories on all types of subjects like travel and history, including many things about the Hudson valley and surrounding areas that he loved to explore.
But Dean was more than just a coworker. He was a loving husband and father who spoke often about his family with great pride and affection. He will be missed by all of us at the MTA. We will especially miss his clear voice and hearty laugh, that is continuing to echo in our hearts and minds. He was a rare and precious gift, and we are grateful for the time we had with him.

To the Chapman Family,
I've watched Dean and his siblings grow up from across the yard. My girls were cared for by Dean's Mom for years. I watched when Dean married and became a Dad. He played in the yard and took them Trick or Treating. I can close my eyes and see Dean running through all kinds of weather holding weights in each hand and running up Sheafe road and even running backwards sometime! I cannot imagine the pain that you alll are feeling at this difficult time. I hope all the wonderful memories of his life lived so well will bring you some kind of comfort. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Your "old" neighbors,
Pat & Terry Kirkup

First, I want to send my deepest condolences to Dean's family, peers at DCC, and his friends. I am a student at DCC and I was fortunate enough to be in 3 classes taught by Dean. We got to know each other well by talking about sports, family, and of course his political stance. Professor Chapman never made students feel like he was superior to them, but rather made you feel like a peer instead. Dean was a role model teacher who was always approachable, always listened, and always gave students the benefit of doubt when it came to late assignments, missed class, quizzes, and tests. Mr. Chapman loved his job, and his passion showed in every class that I was fortunate to have with him. I thoroughly enjoyed our talks after class regarding various topics that included family, sports, class material, and of course political views. Professor Chapman would often crack himself up with that warm smile and his famous giddy laughter. I also enjoyed his stories of the 1970's-80's, and 90's regarding technical advancements in the computer field as well as how good life was for most American's during those years, which he referred to "Good Old Days).
Dean was a fearless soul, never judged someone, and had a 24/7 open door policy. I talked with Dean a lot about my time in Mosul, Iraq as a Marine Corps and Army Veteran when the war first started in the aftermath of 9/11. He influenced me to become a teacher one day. Finally, on Wednesday December 6, 2023, and after completing our final exam, I never do this and I mean never, but Dean was sitting at his desk, and I stated that I am all done. I felt the need to shake his hand, so I stood up and extended my hand and he gave me the biggest grin and stood up and I said to him "It has been an absolute pleasure" in which he replied "No, the pleasure was all mine" with that famous Dean smile, you know, the one when his mustache raises high up and his eyes seem to close (lol).
In closing,
What does it mean when you go to college, have the same teacher for 3 different courses, only briefly know him, and yet you feel like he was a family member to you instead of a teacher? I think it means he was special. I think it means he made and left a huge mark & impact on not just his Peers and Students but made a beautiful impact on society and most of all his family.
Do not stand
By my grave, and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep—
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand
By my grave, and cry—
I am not there,
I did not die.
God Speed Dean. Thank you for that spark that made me want to follow in your footsteps one day!

I have great memories of my uncle Dean. When he came to visit when I was little he would give me piggyback rides around the house and take me out to different events in the area. I even wanted him to do my hair even though I'm sure he didn't know how to. I will miss him dearly. My heart goes out to Kenneth and Deona. I will always be here for you both.

There was no one quite like Dean…he treated me like a brother. Every time I spent with him I loved. My first visit to NY City and Yankee Stadium were with Dean. He arranged everything, acted as our tour guide and made it so fun. Great food and lots of laughs in Little Italy and China Town in the middle of January. I am going to miss his laugh, quick wit and love of the US Constitution-he was a true friend and American…I will truly miss him, but only for a time…I look forward to seeing him and hearing his amazing laugh on the other side.
