Obituary of Dorrance Wesley Seaman, Jr.
Dorrance Wesley Seaman Jr., passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 in Poughkeepsie at the age of 85. He was born September 12, 1938 to the late Florence and Dorrance Seaman Sr. He was raised in East Meadow Long Island with his sister, Judy Lilienthal. There he met his wife Joyce, where they had three children, Kevin, Doreen and Craig.
Wes loved playing the trumpet and participated in the Saint Ignatius Drum and Bugle Corp with his daughter Doreen. He also traveled with Craig where he was his personal pit crew with the Bon Senior go carts. He was proud to see Craig later move up to stock car racing at Riverhead Raceway. Wes was very proud to see Kevin serve in the US Marine Corp, and later have a career as a Locomotive Engineer for Metro North Rail Road.
Before Wes started his family, he proudly served in the Navy from 1955 to 1961 aboard the USS Boston CAG-1. He retired from the Long Island Railroad as a Signalman. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Poughkeepsie, NY to be closer to his family, Kevin, Mary and grandchildren. He just celebrated his 50th year as a Mason in the Masonic brotherhood.
He enjoyed many hobbies but he was a true Fisherman. He loved spending his days with his fishing buddy and son, Kevin, on their boats.
He has three grandchildren that he was very proud of, Jake Kevin, James Craig and Cara Ann Margaret.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following at 4 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale.
