Obituary of John J. O'Hare, I
John Joseph O’Hare, I, 75, died at his home on Saturday, March 9, 2024 after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. He received care by his family with the assist of the wonderful staff of Hudson Valley Hospice.
Son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Maloney) O’Hare, he was born on December 27, 1948 in the Bronx. John joined the U.S. Navy in September 1968 where he proudly served his country as a radioman on the USS Bordelon in Charleston, SC. Once honorably discharged, he found employment with New York Telephone in New York City, until his retirement. Post retirement, he was employed by Walmart.
On October 26, 1974, John married Geraldine (Geri Cipolla) in Brooklyn. In 1979, the family moved to Wappingers Falls.
John was the proud father of John, II, Steven, Michael and daughter-in-law, Megan, and the blessing of his three granddaughters, McKenzie, Maisie and Emma. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Tom, Lillian, Eileen, James and Chris. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth.
John was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed playing softball with his New York Telephone co-workers and later, the local Dutchess County leagues. He was a knowledgeable and proud exponent of the NY Yankees and Atlanta Braves.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
