Obituary of Denise J. Donohue

Denise J. Donohue, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, March 31, 2016 at her home. She was 73. Daughter of the late Thaddeus X. and Georgene M. Denis Szwajer, she was born September 23, 1942 in Watertown, New York. She married Norman Donohue on May 25, 1963 in Yonkers. Mr. Donohue preceded her in death on September 5, 1982. Denise graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Yonkers. She began her nursing career there, eventually retiring from the State of New York, after working twenty years at Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Denise was an arts and crafts person; and could often be found knitting, crocheting and sewing. She sewed many of her own clothes and the blankets she made will be treasured. Denise was also a proud thirty year cancer survivor. She is survived by her devoted sister, Kathryn E. Szwajer at home in Wappingers Falls; numerous cousins; as well as her son, William. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Michael John on August 20, 1976. Family will receive friends on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
