Obituary of Filomena Famighetti

Filomena "Phylis" Famighetti, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie since 2003 and formerly of Staten Island, entered into rest Monday, May 16, 2016 at her home. She was 89. Daughter of the late Michele and Cristina Baratta Venditti, she was born December 3, 1926 in Staten Island. On November 30, 1946 at Assumption Church in Staten Island, she married Anthony J. Famighetti. Mr. Famighetti preceded her in death on July 2, 2007. While raising her family, Phylis worked as a clerk for the New York Police Department in Manhattan. While living in Staten Island, she was active with the Society of San Bernardino. Once moving to Poughkeepsie, she became a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Phylis enjoyed the sounds of Big Band Music and enjoyed traveling. She is survived by her son, Thomas Famighetti and his wife, Joyce DiBonaventura of Cold Spring; her sisters, Mary Perillo and her husband, Gregory of Staten Island and Madeline "Babe" Ciani of Clearwater, Florida; her grandchildren, Rafael and Julia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert in 1986 and her brother, Daniel Venditti in 2015. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 20 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
