Obituary of Anthony T. Garzione

Anthony T. Garzione of Highland entered into rest Friday, May 16, 2014 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 91. Son of the late Angelo and Nina Canosa Garzione, he was born on June 14, 1922 in Newburgh. He married Johanna Terralavoro on October 13, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Garzione preceded him in death, passing on December 26, 1997. Mr. Garzione served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, spending most of his time serving in the South Pacific. When he was honorably discharged in November of 1945, he returned home to marry and settle down. He had a successful 43 year career with IBM as a project manager, retiring from their Poughkeepsie location. At 25 years of service, he became a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Anthony had a passion for business; he enjoyed buying and selling real estate and following the stock market. He was also an avid golfer. Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Posner of Hyde Park; granddaughters, Lyndsey Posner and her fiancé, Jared Fink of Germantown, and Ashley Posner of New York City; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver and friend of six years, Sonia Chambers. In addition to his wife, Johanna, he was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas, Frank, Mafalda and Rita. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 19 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
