Obituary of Elsie C. Mula

Elsie C. Mula of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Friday, February 10, 2017 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. She was 87. Daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Uriano Buonaiuto, she was born on February 16, 1929 in Jamaica, Queens. She married Salvatore R. Mula on September 7, 1951 in Brooklyn. Mr. Mula survives. Mrs. Mula attended Hunter College and later, SUNY New Paltz, where she received her Master's Degree in English Education. She worked as the assistant athletic director for Marist College in Poughkeepsie for twenty years, until her retirement in 1999. In her job, she oversaw all women athletes; she enjoyed traveling with them and all their activities. Elsie was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie where she belonged to their Women's Ministries, the Samuel Prayer Ministry and was on the school board of Faith Christian Academy. In her spare time, Elsie was a walking enthusiast and enjoyed golfing. She was also a member of the League of Women Voters. In addition to her husband, Sal, she is survived by her children, Mark A. Mula (Maura) of Westport, CT, David M. Mula (Melissa) of Cortlandt Manor and Paula Baird (Thomas) of Wappingers Falls; brother, Thomas Buonaiuto (Mae) of Port Jefferson; and grandchildren, Abigail Baird, Rachel Baird, Monica Mula, Matthew Mula, David Mula II, Kayleigh Mula and Isabella Rose Mula. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Anthony Rotunno, and her sister, Angela Amantea. Family will receive their friends on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elsie's name to Faith Christian Academy, 25 Golf Club Lane, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
