Obituary of Jean Ann Diele

Jean Ann Diele, an 18 year resident of Poughquag, Dutchess County, New York and formerly a 42 year resident of Fresh Meadows, Queens County, New York, entered into rest, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at her home. She was 95. Daughter of the late William Nestel and Florence Miller Nestel, she was born in Maspeth, Queens in 1921. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary at Pan American Worldwide Airways in its early days in the 1940's. She married Ernest W. Diele in 1953 in Queens, New York. Ernest preceded her in death in 1995. Jean loved reading, walking in nature, the beach, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sewing, backyard barbecues, family vacations and music including favorites, Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra and Sting. Dearest mother to two daughters, Kathryn E. Diele of Poughquag and Claire R. Diele of Peekskill; dearest cousin to Thelma Kratzer of Wantagh; dearest friend and aunt through marriage to Audrey Flaiz of Northport; and dearest cousin to Agnes Bohnet, who predeceased her in 2003 and Agnes' son, Paul Bohnet of Queens. Family and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567. Family and friends will continue to celebrate Jean's life after Mass and throughout the afternoon at the home of her daughter, Claire, 21 Grove Street, Peekskill, NY 10566 In lieu of flowers, Jean's favorite charity is the Salvation Army.
