Obituary of Stephen Novak

Stephen "Steve" Novak, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Peekskill, entered into rest Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was 91. Son of the late Stephen and Anna Klimick Novak, he was born March 29, 1925 in South Fork, Pennsylvania. Steve enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 to serve his country in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married the former Virginia Gordineer on September 12, 1948. Mrs. Novak preceded him in death on July 12, 1996. Steve worked as a civil engineer for the United States Navy in Haverstraw until his retirement. He also worked as a locksmith, after being self-taught and receiving a certificate. Steve was a simple man and enjoyed dabbling in antiques. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife. He also enjoyed playing jokes on his grandchildren. Most importantly he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, Stephanie Raccioppo and her husband Nicholas of Poughkeepsie, Susan Tuczynski and her husband, Lawrence of Wappingers Falls, Stephen Novak of Barker, NY, Michael Novak of Poughkeepsie, Mary LaSorsa and her husband, Michael of Poughkeepsie, and John Novak and his partner, Roxanne of Barker, NY; his grandchildren, Nicole, Kristy, Michael, Mark, Donnie, Crystal, and Michael; as well as his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Maximilian, Jacob, Sean, DJ, Caitlyn, Levi, Tyler, Cody, and Ashley. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, 1055 Oregon Road in Cortlandt Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations in Steve's name may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
