We loved Bruce, we have lots of great memories and will miss him. We had so many great experiences with him that I will only recount our favorites including; his wit, his smile, his box of liquors, his volley ball digs (well at least his effort!), his help in making a whirlpool in our round pool (with the help of his kids), his (sheep) jokes. I could go on, but then I would never get this posted. Ill conclude that our love and sympathy goes out to Carolyn and the family in this time of celebrating what Bruce had meant to us all!

Bruce and I go all the way back to 1956 when we entered St. John's College High School in Washington, DC. We both were awarded Navy ROTC scholarships to Holy Cross. We were just a few rooms away during freshman year when roommates were assigned. We roomed together for two years and would have roomed together senior year but for my electing to be a Student Prefect (Resident Assistant today). Bruce was the Best Man at our wedding nearly 53 years ago. We will always remember him as the Best of Men. We will remember all of the McLaughlins in our daily prayers.

I was a Holy Cross classmate of Bruce's. We were in the Navy ROTC together and were in Bob and Patty Smith's wedding party. I remember that occasion very well. Dick Kane (an MIA lost over Laos) and I were the two Marines in the wedding party.
Please accept my sincerest condolences on Bruce's passing. It was a long time ago but we shared something very special in Holy Cross and the Naval Service. It is a fond memory that I still cherish. It is a bond that endures for a lifetime. He will be in my prayers.
Once again, my sympathies on your loss.

We are so sorry for your loss, Carolyn. I worked with Bruce for several years at IBM and made more than one trip to England with him. We had some odd experiences there. He is one of the few people I still remember, since I retired 30 years ago. We will remember Bruce and all of you in our prayers.

We have many many fond memories of the years we spent as neighbors in Shokan and the succeeding years when we would visit each other. Bruce and Carolyn were wonderful neighbors - there when you needed them. Bruce ALWAYS had the perfect tool, the correct shoelace, the expertise, and the willingness to help. I can picture him doing stained glass or playing a board game or carrying Brian around on his shoulders. He built a fabulous treehouse which was the punchline for many McLaughlin-Van Vliet jokes. He had a great collection of (everything) video tapes and we spent many nights there watching old movies when we came to visit. Bruce was funny, irreverent, witty, clever, obviously very intelligent, and just darned fun to be around. He could always be counted on for the best quips, the best come-back lines, the most insightful thought-provoking comments. We loved our time as neighbors. We will miss Bruce. We are so happy that we knew Bruce. Love, Robin & Eddie Van Vliet
