Obituary of John J. Palmer
John J. Palmer, a resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at home.
John was born in the Bronx; the son of the late John and Mary (Fitzgerald) Palmer, Sr. He attended schools in the Bronx and Manhattan. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked for eight years at Cluett Peabody in Manhattan. In 1958 he joined the New York City Fire Department and retired in 1995 after thirty-six years.
On May 17, 1958 he married the former Nancy DeFeo at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. They lived in New Rochelle for twenty years before moving to Wappingers Falls.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Arthur Tucker; three wonderful grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda and Kathleen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother and six sisters.
Family will receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
