Obituary of Margaret Rita Herder
Margaret Rita Herder, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, January 11, 2018 at The Eleanor Nursing Care Center in Hyde Park. She was 82.
Daughter of the late Archibald and Ann Monahan Paterson, she was born May 7, 1935 in the Bronx. She married Thomas Robert Herder on June 2, 1956 in Brooklyn. Mr. Herder preceded her in death on January 23, 2014.
Margaret worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie and later worked as a secretary at IBM. She went back to school for transcription and worked as a transcriptionist at Vassar Brothers Hospital until her retirement.
She was passionate about church and attended both St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls and St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill. As her children were growing up, she was involved with the Mothers Guild at St. Mary's School and Ketcham High School Wrestling Booster Club as well as being a Girl Scout Leader. Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling including trips to Scotland and Ireland, Italy and Bermuda. Margaret was an avid reader and liked to crochet. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her ridiculously large dinners.
Survivors include her children, Ann Marie Herder-Fauntleroy, Diana Herder, Juliana Hilla, John Thomas Herder, Robert Jude Herder and Theresa Ann Dean; her brother, John Paterson; her grandchildren, Theresa, Michael, Anthony, Christopher, Keegan, Shaun, Kyle, Dylan, Brittany, and Jordyn; her great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaleigh, Aidan, Natalee, Margaret, Quinn, Westin, and Griffen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Paterson and her grandson, Corey Hilla.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 15 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
