Obituary of Sara R. Perkert
Sara R. "Sally" Perkert, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 after a short illness. She was 94.
Daughter of the late Frederick and Ann Bellos Piane, she was born September 17, 1923 in Stockdale, Pennsylvania. She graduated valedictorian from West Liberty State College with a teaching degree. Sally taught at Edgewood School in Weirton, West Virginia.
She married William Robert Reebel on August 26, 1942 and together, they moved to Poughkeepsie in 1962. Mr. Reebel preceded her in death on December 2, 1974. She later married Herbert Perkert on November 26, 1988. Mr. Perkert preceded her in death on October 27, 2000.
Sally worked as a substitute teacher at St. Martin de Porres School in Poughkeepsie and later as a bank teller with Poughkeepsie Savings Bank. She retired as an administrative assistant from IBM in Poughkeepsie. Sally was a devoted member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls where she was instrumental in forming the Women of Zion. More recently she helped to restore the bells at Zion in memory of her husband, William Reebel and son, William Reebel, Jr. Sally enjoyed playing golf nearly every day from spring through fall and played bridge on rainy days, nights and through the winter. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a strong woman with a big personality.
Survivors include her daughter, Annette McMahon; her grandsons, Christopher and David McMahon and their wives, Jillian and Tara; as well as three amazing great-grandchildren, Morgan, Hayden and Reagan and one almost here.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her son, William Robert Reebel, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. Interment will be in the spring at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
