Obituary of Linda E. Powers-Schmidt

Linda Powers-Schmidt of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Thursday, March 1, 2018 at home. She was 63. Daughter of the late Edward J. and Melhena "Micki" Carr Powers, she was born on December 12, 1954 in Yonkers. She married the love of her life, William L. Schmidt on February 4, 1990 at the Church of St. Nicholas-on-the-Hudson in New Hamburg. Mr. Schmidt survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Linda loved working with children. She worked for the New York State Division for Youth, until the birth of her son, Kevin. When he entered school, she was always active in the PTA. She loved helping children, whether they were troubled or just a neighborhood kid. Linda also enjoyed making a warm and loving home for her family. She was extremely generous and never forgot anyone's birthday. She leaves behind many loving friends, whom she enjoyed chatting with on a daily basis. Linda was happiest at the beach, especially the beaches of southern New Jersey. In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by her son, Kevin Schmidt and his partner, Nina Coveney of San Francisco, CA; her brother, Edward M. Powers, and his wife, Patty of Stormville; uncle, Andrew W. Carr of Little River, SC; niece, Andalee Powers; nephew, Skylar Powers; and several cousins and extended family. Family will receive their friends on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 12 noon at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9 in Fishkill. Burial will follow.
