Obituary of George J. Brill

George J. Brill, 96, of Hyde Park passed away on February 28, 2018. George was born on April 21, 1921 to George and Margaret Brill in Brooklyn. On February 3, 1946 he married Dorothy (Grupp) Brill in Ridgewood, Queens. Mr. Brill honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He also attained his associate degree from Miller Business College. He went on to have a long and successful career as a financial analyst for IBM, retiring from their Poughkeepsie location in 1985. In his spare time, George was an avid golfer and was so proud of his legendary "hole-in-one". He loved spending time bowling and playing pool. He also enjoyed the many years he spent coaching Wappingers Falls Little League, building championship teams. George was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He also was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, Judith Stutzman (James) of Hyde Park, with whom he resided, Susan Kocan (George) of Wappingers Falls and Robert Brill of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Michael, David and Jamie Stutzman, Kimberly and Danielle Adamyk, and Sarah Brill; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jaiden, Lennon, Alissa and Aiden Stutzman; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Brill in 2016 and his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Pfeffer in 1987. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will immediately follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
