Obituary of Elaine M. Greer

Elaine Mae Greer, a local resident since 1952, passed away on March 1, 2018, at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY after a lengthy illness. Born on August 25, 1924, in Port Chester, NY, Elaine came of age during the Great Depression and was a proud member of what has been coined the "greatest generation." Elaine graduated from North Salem High School in 1942, and on April 27, 1947, she married Edgar Lloyd Greer at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Chester. Ed predeceased her in 2009. Elaine was employed as an administrative assistant for the Bobrich (Electric) Corporation in Beacon, NY and with the Wappingers Central School District, where she worked in a variety of positions from 1966 until her retirement in 1986. She was also a co-owner of Encore Boutique, a second-hand clothing store in Hughsonville, during the 1980s and 90s and was an accomplished bowler during her younger years. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Elaine was predeceased by her parents, George S. and Laura (Smith) Hoffman. She is survived by daughter, Tamara J. Greer, (Connelly, NY); son, J. Scott Greer and his wife, Susan (Poughkeepsie, NY); grandchildren, Kyle Martin (Kingston, NY), Shelby (Martin) Munoz and her husband Alex (Sherman, CT), Colleen H. Greer (Denver, CO), and J. Evan Greer (Scottsdale, AZ); sister, Margarette "Peg" Nichols (Connelly); niece, Lori Nichols (Connelly); and nephew, James Nichols (Beacon). There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Bloomingburg Cemetery, Bloomingburg.
