Obituary of Elaine F. Tobin

Elaine F. Tobin, Wappingers Falls, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill, New York. Elaine was born in the Bronx, New York on May 21st 1932, the oldest daughter of Kathryn (Leitz) and Joseph F. Schussler. She received her Bachelor's and Master's in Education from Fordham University in 1954 and went on to teach English Literature at Morris High School. She married William J. Tobin on July 9th 1960 at St. Anthony of Padua also in the Bronx. They moved to Crestwood, NY and welcomed their daughter, Eileen, a year later. Elaine continued to teach for several years and then retired to become a full time mother in 1966. She moved upstate to Wappingers Falls in 1972 and remained at the same address for 45 years. Elaine enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, frequent family outings to New England and in later years, her loyal feline companions Buzzy and Tigger. Elaine is survived by her husband Bill at home, her daughter Eileen Allen and her husband Matthew of Waterford, NY. She will be dearly missed by her extended family, Dorothy Schussler of Elmsford, Michael Tobin of Pleasantville, John and Ronnie Tobin of Phoenix, Arizona and many, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents in 1996 & 1997, her sister Kathleen (Kay) Johosky in 2017 and her brother Joseph W. Schussler in 1995. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks the dedicated staff at Wingate of Dutchess and Vassar Hospital for their care and compassion over the past few months. A short visitation and Catholic prayer service will be held at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls on Friday April 6th from 3:00 to 5:00. In remembrance of her dedication to education and her love of her feline friends, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Guardian Angel Scholarship Fund at St. Mary's School in Ballston Spa, NY or to the Mid- Hudson Animal Aid Society in Beacon, NY.
