Obituary of Cosmo A. Scianna
Cosmo A. Scianna, devoted husband, beloved father and cherished grandfather, a lifelong resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 89.
Son of the late Onofrio and Vincenza Sorce Scianna, he was born September 2, 1928 in Wappingers Falls. Cosmo was a 1946 graduate of Wappingers High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant, with commendation ribbon for meritorious service. After returning home, he graduated from Krissler Business School in Poughkeepsie. He retired as Operations Manager at Mid Valley Petroleum in Newburgh.
On November 14, 1954, he married the former Ann Ranalli at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Scianna preceded him in death on September 19, 2006.
Cosmo was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wappingers Falls. Cosmo was devoted to his family, always offering help in any way possible. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially at his beach house in New Jersey. He enjoyed long walks on the boardwalk, sitting on the beach enjoying the warm sun and sea air.
Survivors include his daughters, Lia Buchanan and her husband, John of North Salem, Lynette DeBellis and her husband, Dr. Davide of Poughkeepsie, and Lori Scianna of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, John Buchanan, Jr., Matthew Buchanan, Julianna (DeBellis) Kimbark and her husband, Brian, and Steven DeBellis; his sister-in-law, Amelia Touponse of Poughkeepsie; and his brother-in-law, Frank Ranalli of Glenham; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, he was predeceased by his sister, Katherine O'Jea.
Cosmo leaves behind special friends from Seaside Park, Jack and Margaret Catterall, and their family. Their friendship, love and caring; especially after Ann passed away will always be remembered.
Family will receive friends on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
