Obituary of Dorothy M. Brill

HYDE PARK – Dorothy M. Brill, 93, died peacefully on April 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jim Stutzman and Jen one of her caregivers. She was born on November 13, 1924 to the late William and Katherine Grupp in Brooklyn. Dorothy grew up in Ridgewood, N.Y. In her younger years she loved going to the beach and going dancing. She worked as a switchboard operator for NY Tel & Tel and also Macy's, New York City, until she met and married her husband, George and they raised 3 children in Wappingers Falls. A homemaker, Dorothy loved to cook, garden and take care of her family. She particularly enjoyed the many family vacations to Brigantine, N.J. She prided herself on hosting BBQs, holidays and family gatherings. Dorothy also loved getting together with the ladies on Liss Road for coffee. There was never a day that she didn't have her nails perfectly manicured. She was also a long time parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. In passing, she will be reunited in heaven with the love of her life, George J. Brill, with whom she was married for 72 years and who predeceased her on February 28, 2018; her father, William Grupp in 1988; her mother, Katherine Grupp in 1991 and her sister, Katherine Swinson on April 21, 2018. Dorothy is survived by her 3 children: Judith Stutzman (James), with whom she resided, of Hyde Park, N.Y.; Susan Kocan (George) of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; Robert Brill of Denver, Colorado; 6 grandchildren; Michael, David and Jamie Stutzman, Kimberly and Danielle Adamyk and Sarah Brill; 6 great grandchildren: Hailey, Jaiden, Lennon, Bryce, Alissa and Aiden Stutzman and many nieces and nephews. Judy and Jim would like to thank Can Do Caregivers, especially Jen, Morgan, Christina, Sabrina and Bambi for the unending compassion and love they gave Dorothy on a daily basis. You all have been a God sent. Family will receive their friends on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, N.Y. 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will immediately follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
