Obituary of Eleanor Sammartino

Eleanor Ruth K. Sammartino of Hopewell Junction and Wappingers Falls, New York, passed away on April 9, 2018 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Dobbs Ferry Hospital, Dobbs Ferry New York November 29, 1932 to Annabella Steenson Kerr and Edward Samuel Kerr; the eighth of nine children. Eleanor was raised in East Irvington, NY (Dublin) and attended Irvington's public schools. Upon graduation from Irvington High School, Class of 1951, Eleanor worked in Philips Laboratories, Irvington. She is survived by her children Wayne (Liz) Geis of Bluff City, Tennessee and their children Karin (Thomas) Jacques, Anna (Tyson) Payne and grandchildren; Dale Geis of Hopewell Junction; and Lynn Fasano of Calgary Alberta, and her children Jason (Victoria), Nicole, and Jordan Fasano; her sister and brother-in-law sister, Barbara and Lee Carrozzi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Richard Geis (1992); her second husband Thomas Sammartino (2003); her siblings Mary, Anne, Mildred, Florence, Ethel, Edward, and William; and her grandson, Robert Sallstrom. Together, Eleanor and Tom enjoyed dancing, roller-skating, bowling and gardening. An active volunteer in her church community, she also enjoyed her many friends and activities at the Senior Center, Bingo and Zion Group. Eleanor possessed a very generous spirit and could always be found doing things for others. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in her honor Tuesday, May 8 at 2:30 p.m. at Wiccopee Methodist Church, 1917 Route 52, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533; reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wiccopee Methodist Church. The family has requested that in light of her generous and helping spirit that everyone pay forward an act of kindness or giving.
