Obituary of David N. Scofield

David N. Scofield David N. Scofield, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Kingsbridge Veteran's Hospital, Bronx, New York. He was 62. Son of the late Norman F.M. and Barbara Merritt Clay Scofield, he was born December 1, 1942 in Poughkeepsie. David married the former Irene Rueger in 1978. Mrs. Scofield survives at home in Poughkeepsie. David served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was a Merchant Marine Officer during the Persian Gulf War and he was also a 3rd Mate on the ship Richard G. Matthison which was the first ship to go to TerraNova, Antarctica. David was a Merchant Marine Officer, working the Deep Sea and New York Harbor in the boat business. He was also a carpenter, artist and a Backhoe and Bulldozer operator. He enjoyed art and spending time reading, nature watching, fishing, and boating. He also liked to study rocks and fossils. In addition to his wife, Irene Scofield, who survives at home, he is survived by his son, Aubrey Clay Scofield of Albany and Emily Irene Scofield of Astoria; his brothers, Peter, Richard and Steven Scofield; his grandson, Zachary Clay Kalinowski and several nieces and nephews Family will receive their friends from 5-8 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2005 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, October 17 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd., Poughkeepsie.
