Obituary of Janet P. Williams

Janet P. Williams Janet P. Williams of Hughsonville, an area resident for more than 60 years, died Sunday August 7, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital following a brief illness. She was 80 years old. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Janet was born on February 21, 1925, the daughter of Samuel and Vivian Pollard, in Winooski, Vermont. She was a graduate of Wappingers Central School, Class of '42. On August 1st of that year, she married John E. (Tip) Williams; they remained married until his passing on November 4, 1989. Janet was most proud of her family. She leaves a legacy five children: daughters, Cynthia Stahl and her husband, Bill, of Vero Beach, Florida and Elizabeth Williams-Walsh and her husband, Gerry, of Poughkeepsie; three sons, Scott and his wife, Joanne, of Brookfield, Connecticut, Chris of Hughsonville and Matt and his wife, Beverly, of Poughkeepsie; sister, Jacqueline Nash of Grass Valley, California; her brother, George Pollard of New Hampshire; 14 grandchildren, Trey, John, Sara, Josh, Becky, Leah, Steve, Tom, Sean, Lauren, Katie, Jonathan, Emily and Julie; one great-granddaughter, Madison; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was outgoing and personable and enjoyed making new friends. She was also an enthusiastic spectator at her family's sporting events and performances. She was also a tireless volunteer, serving for Second Hand Rose, Alzheimer's Association of Dutchess, Office of the Aging and the Oak Grove Elementary School Library. Like many of the "Greatest Generation", Janet endured many struggles and she was proud of her ability to persevere. She credits her strength to her faith in Jesus Christ and named Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me" as her favorite Bible verse. Other favorite verses include Matthew 28:20, Psalm 118:24, Romans 12:18 and Mathew 6:34. There will be no calling hours and the interment at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. A service celebrating her life will be held on August 27 at 11 a.m. at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. It was her wish that donations be made in her name to your favorite charity. Several years ago Janet was asked how she would like to be remembered and she replied, "I'd like any thoughts of me to bring a smile to your face". Janet touched many lives in her 80 years and those who knew her will not only smile at her memory, but also be forever grateful that she was part of their lives.
