Obituary of Evelyn J. Snedeker

Evelyn J. Snedeker Evelyn J. Snedeker of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at home. She was 83. Daughter of the late Francis R. and Edna Reuter Zelley, she was born on August 11, 1922 in Trenton, New Jersey. She wed her loving husband J. Russell Snedeker, Jr. on June 25, 1949 in Trenton; they remained happily married for just under 50 years. He precedes her in death, passing on June 12, 1999. Evelyn worked as an office clerk for IBM in Poughkeepsie. She was also a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, not only as a parishioner but a member of their women's groups as well. Evelyn also volunteered for many years for Hudson Valley Tourism, spending most of her time in the Roosevelt House. Mrs. Snedeker was the loving mother of two daughters, Nancy Shortle and her husband, Mark of Gardiner and Diane White and Scott Roden of Meriden, Conn.; grandmother of Scott, Christopher and Patrick Shortle and Kendal White; great-grandmother to Caitlyn and Shawn; and aunt to Francis R. Zelley, III. Besides her husband Russell, she is predeceased by her brother, Francis R. Zelley, II. Family will receive their friends on Friday, December 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held during visitation at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Evelyn's name to the American Lung Association, 3 Winners Circle, Albany, NY 12205 or the American Parkinson's Disease Association Inc., 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
