Obituary of Carmela Vredenburgh

Carmela Vredenburgh, currently residing in St. Louis and originally from Wappingers Falls, New York entered into rest Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 97. Daughter of the late Stephano and Angelina Sciacca, she was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on August 1, 1916. She married the love of her life, James Edward "Ed" Vredenburgh on April 17, 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church in Poughkeepsie. They remained happily married for over 57 years. Carmela graduated from Krissler Business School and became the Head Bookkeeper for the Poughkeepsie Journal. After marrying Ed, she was recruited as Head Bookkeeper for the WKIP Radio Station located in Beacon, New York. After raising two children, Carm went back to work as the receptionist at the Southern Dutchess News for four years. Carmela is survived by a daughter, Jean Ann Silbereisen and her husband, Roy of Eatonton, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Caren A. Vredenburgh of St. Louis, Missouri; grandson, Michael Vredenburgh and his wife, Rebecca Rubin-Schlansky; grandson Stephen Vredenburgh and his wife, Whitney; and her two great grandchildren, Ainsley June and James David Vredenburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Carmela is predeceased by her husband, son James E. Vredenburgh, Jr., sister Mary Diligio and two brothers, Joseph and Matteo Sciacca. A celebration of her life will be held at the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie, New York for family members at a later date.
