Obituary of Herman I. Osten

Herman I. Osten Herman I. Osten of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Wednesday, January 25, 2006 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. He was 91. Son of the late Jack B. and Henrietta Stiles Osten he was born on April 1, 1914 in Brooklyn. He married the love of his life, Beatrice Gorovitz on September 10, 1938 in Brooklyn; she precedes him in death passing on July 10, 2004. Herman was the owner and publisher of Southern Dutchess News in Wappingers Falls for his entire working career until his retirement in the early 1980's. He was also a former member of W.T. Garner Engine Co. in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Osten leaves behind his sons, Albert Osten of Poughkeepsie and John Osten and his wife, Rose of Manhattan Beach, California; and his grandchildren, Marne and Aaron Osten. Herman is predeceased by his sister Bessie Pearlman. Family will receive their friends on Monday, January 30, 2006 from 7-9 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 31 at the funeral home with Rabbi Susan Matrani-Knapp presiding. Interment will follow in Beacon Hebrew Alliance Cemetery in Fishkill. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Herman's name to Canterbury Senior Residence, 5801 West Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
