Obituary of George W. Hess

George "Bill" W. Hess George "Bill" W. Hess, a resident New Hamburg since 1939, entered into rest Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Fishkill Health Center. He was 93. Son of the late Peter W. and Wilhelmina Bartenhagen Hess, he was born on June 21, 1912 in Long Island. Bill served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He received many commendations such as the Distinguished Unit Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He then went on to work as a machinist for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 27 years until his retirement in 1970. Mr. Hess was also a volunteer for many years for the New Hamburg Fire House where he was made a life member. Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Jean Hess of New Hamburg; and several nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his brother, John "Harry" Hess and his sisters, Dorothy Morey, Margaret Hess and Wilhelmina Harnisch. Memorial donation may be made in Bill's name to the New Hamburg Fire House, 15 Channingville Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
