Obituary of Jean A. Woodin

Jean A. Woodin Jean A. Woodin, 71, a lifetime Town of Poughkeepsie resident, passed away Saturday at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Born January 11, 1935 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Theodora and Edward McManus. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for the NY Telephone Company and then was employed as a secretary at Vassar College until 1959, at which time she became a full-time homemaker in order to care for her first-born child. In an effort to balance work and family life, Mrs. Woodin held various part-time positions, including employment in the IBM Poughkeepsie cafeteria before retiring. She married Ralph C. "Woody" Woodin, Jr. on September 19, 1954 at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie. Her beloved husband predeceased her on November 9, 1998. Mrs. Woodin is survived by her two children, Ralph C. Woodin III and his wife, Kathy of Oak Ridge, NC and Barbara A. Roberts and her husband, Dennis of Wake Forest, NC. Mrs. Woodin is also survived by three grandchildren, Jessica Woodin, Brian Woodin and Kristin Roberts. In addition, she is survived by two step-grandchildren, Brian Roberts and Brandon Roberts. Mrs. Woodin is also survived by her sister and best friend, Eleanor Gendts of Poughkeepsie. She was predeceased by her sister Kathleen Banas in 2002. Mrs. Woodin will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and caring sister. She loved good conversation with family and friends. She was an avid reader and had a great passion for horses. Calling hours are on Wednesday, March 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, March 9 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, Hudson View Dr. in Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
