Obituary of Shirley J. Stanton

Shirley J. Stanton Shirley J. Stanton of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Monday, March 27, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 75. Daughter of the late Harold D. and Jane E. Jones Waite, she was born on October 2, 1930 in Granville, New York. She married the love of her life, Richard W. Stanton on July 19, 1952 in West Pawlet, Vermont. Shirley graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hunter College. She then went on to become a school teacher for the Fishkill Central School District until she gave up her career to care for her three sons. Shirley loved to dance, especially line dancing; she taught a class in Florida every year. She was an avid parishioner of United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls. Most of all, she enjoyed her time spent with her six grandchildren. Besides her husband at home, Mrs. Stanton is survived by her three sons, Rick Stanton of Poughkeepsie, Bob Stanton and his wife, Cathy of Hyde Park and Ron Stanton and his wife, Diana of East Fishkill; her brother, Harold D. Waite, Jr. of Newburgh; her aunt, Till Hughes and her husband, Charles of Virginia; six grandchildren, Meredith, John, Bob, Caitlin, Matthew and Nicholas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, March 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church, East Main St. in Wappingers Falls. Burial will take place at a later date, to be announced.
