Obituary of Edwin Sutton

Edwin Sutton Edwin Sutton of Hyde Park since 1990, formerly of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 86. Son of the late Charles and Phoebe Bush Sutton, he was born on May 27, 1919 in Philipstown, NY. He married the love of his life, Ruth L. Hamilton on June 15, 1941 at the Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls; Ruth survives at home in Hyde Park. Mr. Sutton graduated from Hughsonville Grammar School and then attended Wappingers Falls High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a Technician Fifth Grade Battery D in the 72nd AAA Gun Battalion for 43 months, from 1942-1945. During his service he toured such places as England, Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Following his time in the Army, Edwin worked as a mechanic for garages in Hughsonville and Beacon, and finished his career at Texaco Lab in Glenham; he retired in 1981 after 33 years of service. All the while, he belonged to many local organizations; he was one of the first members of the Wappingers Falls Historical Society when it started in 1967, a member of the Hyde Park Historical Society and a member of the American Legion in Hyde Park. He was a parishioner of St. James Church in Hyde Park and formerly of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls. Edwin also had a strong love for gardening and bird watching. Besides his loving wife, Ruth at home, he is survived by his daughter, Donna Fein of Hyde Park; his granddaughter, Shelli Rawlings-Fein and her husband, Marty of San Francisco, CA; his great-granddaughter, Sarah Viola Rawlings-Fein; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mr. Sutton is predeceased by his brothers, Earl, Charles and Wesley Sutton and his sisters, Melva Foley, Hilda Palmatier, Carrie Ralston and Alma Marshall Nyari. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 22 at 1 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. Inurnment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Route 9D in Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Edwin's name to a charity or church of one's choice.
