Obituary of Edith Frances Forster

Edith Frances Forster Edith Frances Forster, 83, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Daughter of the late Edmund L. and Edith May Hiatt, she was born January 24, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Richmond, Indiana. Following her graduation from Earlham College, she served our country as a WAVE during World War II. While employed at the May Company in Los Angles, California, she met and then married Richard Frederick Forster on December 17, 1949. Two sons, William Hiatt and Nicholson Howard were born in Los Angeles. In 1957, the family moved to Endicott, New York. Another son, Edmund Lawrence was born in Endicott. In 1961, the family moved to Poughkeepsie. Frances was active in the community and was a wonderful inspiration to her family. She was a volunteer at the Vanderbilt Mansion for almost 20 years and enjoyed giving tours and meeting with the visitors. She often logged 1400 to 1600 hours a year at the mansion and was honored with several awards from the Park Service. She will be truly missed by all that ever knew her. In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her sons, William Forster and his wife, Beth and Edmund Forster and his wife, Barbara. She was predeceased by her son, Nicholson on July 7, 2004. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. Pastor John Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
